Memphis is known for its grind and its hustle, but that’s usually just among the locals. No more! The city has now been recognized as one of America’s top cities to find a job in 2018, according to a Thrillist article released Thursday.
The list is composed of 25 cities across the United States, and among Memphis are cities like Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, and Washington D.C.
Memphis is hanging out in the number seven spot because it has been labeled the most affordable city— which is one reason Nashville no longer makes these types of lineups.
The article shows Memphis boasts over 26,000 job openings this year and a median base salary of $43,900. The labeled “hot jobs” are product manager, account executive, and restaurant manager. All of which make sense since FedEx, International Paper, and AutoZone are all headquartered in Shelby County.
Also, it’s Memphis, so of course restaurant manager makes the list. The town is
crawling with talented cooks. And to end the barbecue hierarchy debate, Kansas City— the number eleven spot— doesn’t even mention any food industry positions in its “hot jobs” category, so do with that what you will.
The purpose of the study was to show cities that act as launching pads, which is why New York and Los Angeles don’t appear. With that being said, don’t write off Memphis as a city that once was. A new wave of industry has washed over the Blues City.
